Remembering Christmas in Your Heart

Ways to Keep Christmas in Your Heart All Year Long

  1. Share your Christmas experience
    1. Tell one person about your Christmas joy:
      1. Nothing elaborate, just a simple sharing of the specialness and meaning of this season for you
      2. Do something special for someone on the 25th of each month
        1. Send a card, take them to lunch, give a secret pal remembrance
        2. Nothing of any real monetary value
        3. Remember the secret is the giving of yourself
    2. Set aside time each week to listen to God
      1. Spend just 10 minutes each week reading Scripture and consider how the passage applies to your life.
    3. Make a hallelujah "Faith Promise."
      1. Instead of a New Year Resolution list, ask God to guide you and your goals for the year.
      2. Pray, "Lord, with your help, this year I will  _______________"
    4. Share a non-perishable food item each week with community food banks.
Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" is the classic story of redemption, transformation, hope, life and new opportunity.  It is the story of a second chance.  To this end, Scrooge becomes the archetype of Christmas.  He is the reason for Christmas even as he is the result of the birth of Christmas in the human heart.  If we will be honest with ourselves, his story is our story with all of its potential, lost chances, self-awareness and  new opportunity.

Dickens challenges each of us by ending his story with the description of a new Scrooge: "And it was always said of him that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge."  May that be truly said of us, and all of us!

He challenges us to keep the spirit of Christmas in our heart each day of the year.  Our production of Dicken's "A Christmas Carol" is a direct result of our endeavor to keep Christmas in our heart.  To further assist this endeavor, the membership of First Christian Church has developed a special program structure to help live the spirit of Christmas each day.   Please be sure to get a
full listing of the Christmas passages for the year.

Each year, the Christmas Carol production pictures are posted on a local website.  You can check out those pictures here.
